What Is French Immersion?

French Immersion(short for FI) is a program designed:

  • For the children of parents who do NOT speak French;
  • To provide English-speaking children with opportunities to become highly proficient in French as well as in English; and
  • To provide your child with high quality education in both French and English, within the Public School Board. More info here.

How French Immersion Benefits Your Child?

  • increases your child's intellectural growth and mental flexibility
  • FI students score higer on EQAO tests in higher grades
  • enhances problem-solving ability and creative thinking
  • provides more understanding and respect for other cultures
  • increases employment opportunities in Canada and overseas

Enrolling Your Child in French Immersion Program

  • SK: The FI registration process is the same as the the regular one, see HWDSB SK enrollment. or call Fessenden, 905-648_4115.
  • Gr.1 : While it is prefered to start your child from SK, it is still possible to enroll Gr.1 students to French Immersion. Please contact Principal Youngblud at Fessenden, at 905-648-4115, to discuss further. Here is some material you can help your child to get familiar with some basic French French treasure chest.
